HP Photosmart C6380 Printer

One of HP’s latest inkjet printers to hit the home segment is the Photosmart C6380. It’s a multi-function printer that can scan and copy along with the routine printing activities. Moreover, it’s a photo printer as well.

The printing technology is thermal based which uses heat to deposit tiny ink droplets on paper. Maximum printing resolution is at 9600 X 2400 dpi.

Printing speed is top notch for this printer at 33ppm for monochrome and 31ppm for colour at draft quality. Improving the print quality to normal drastically reduces the print speed to 12ppm and 9ppm for monochrome and colour respectively. Each 4″ X 6″ photograph takes around 30 seconds to print at normal quality.

Scanning quality is at par with the printing quality at 4800 X 9600 dpi. A 4″ X 6″ photograph takes around 20 seconds to be scanned and imported onto MS Word. Scanning text with OCR onto MS Word takes around 15 seconds.

HP offers a plethora of connectivity options for this printer. It can connect to a standalone computer through USB 2.0 and to networks through Ethernet and Wi-Fi. Optional Bluetooth kit is also available for connecting to Bluetooth enabled devices like cell phones. The printer can also function sans PC through memory card readers.

On the negative front, the printer offers a maximum paper capacity of 125 pages which is too small even for home use. Also, the projected monthly duty cycle at 2500 pages is on the lower side. The absence of a LCD screen for viewing pictures and a PictBridge port are notable.
